Hybrid vehicle development lives or dies on visibility: if your engineers can't see battery state, energy flow and fault codes in real time, every development cycle takes longer than it needs to. At **EMB Power**, as New Eagle's exclusive UK and EU partner for the Raptor toolchain, we spec, supply and integrate the Raptor VeeCAN display range into hybrid and EV development programmes across automotive, marine and off-highway projects. Here's what the two most commonly specified displays — the **VeeCAN 320** and the **VeeCAN 800** — actually offer, and where each one fits.

## Why Displays Matter for Hybrid Vehicle Development

A display is the fastest way to turn raw CAN traffic into a decision your engineers can act on. During prototyping and validation, a VeeCAN unit gives the team live readouts of battery status, energy distribution and engine or motor diagnostics without needing a laptop tethered to the bench. That matters most in two moments: fault-finding on a test rig, where a visible parameter can save an hour of log-diving, and in-vehicle trials, where a driver or test engineer needs a clear readout without disrupting the drive.

## VeeCAN 320 and VeeCAN 800: What's Actually Different

These are two distinct products for two different jobs, not two sizes of the same display.

### VeeCAN 320: compact, rugged monitoring

The VeeCAN 320 is a 3.5-inch, 320×240 colour display rated to 700 NIT brightness, built for permanent or semi-permanent fitment on a prototype or test vehicle rather than a bench ([New Eagle store](https://store.neweagle.net/shop/raptor/raptor-hardware/raptor-displays-raptor-hardware/veecan-320-raptor-display/)). It carries 7 analog inputs, 2 digital inputs, 4 outputs and 2 CAN channels, plus a USB port for onboard data logging, and is rated for -40°C to 70°C operation in a sealed, rugged enclosure — built for a vehicle environment, not a lab. It's programmed through the Raptor-Dev environment, so a screen layout can be built and iterated in the same toolchain used for the rest of the controls project.

### VeeCAN 800: full touchscreen HMI

The VeeCAN 800 steps up to a 7-inch resistive touchscreen, fully sunlight-viewable, with a substantially larger I/O count: 14 analog inputs, 4 digital inputs, 8 switched outputs, 2 CAN connections and 2 USB ports ([New Eagle store](https://store.neweagle.net/shop/raptor/raptor-hardware/raptor-displays-raptor-hardware/veecan-800-raptor-display/)). It's environmentally sealed to IP66 on the front face and IP67 on the back, which is the rating that matters if the unit is going to live in a cab or an exposed enclosure rather than a protected bay. Where the 320 suits a compact diagnostics readout, the 800's touchscreen and I/O headroom make it better suited to a full operator-facing HMI: switching drive modes, running diagnostic menus, or displaying a customised dashboard for a test driver.

## How EMB Power Gets These Displays Into Your Vehicle

Buying the hardware is the easy part. The harder part is wiring a VeeCAN unit into an existing CAN architecture, mapping the right signals to the right screen elements, and making sure the display doesn't become its own point of failure on a safety-relevant system. As New Eagle's exclusive UK and EU partner, EMB Power supplies both the VeeCAN 320 and VeeCAN 800 alongside the engineering support to configure them: signal mapping, screen layout in Raptor-Dev, and integration testing against the rest of your control system. That's the difference between a display that sits on a shelf and one that's actually earning its place on the dashboard.

## Where Each Display Fits in a Development Programme

In practice, we see teams specify the two displays differently depending on the stage of the programme:

- **Bench and rig validation:** the VeeCAN 320's smaller footprint and data-logging USB port suit a compact diagnostics readout during early testing.
- **In-vehicle trials:** the VeeCAN 320's -40°C to 70°C rating and sealed enclosure hold up to a vehicle environment for longer-duration fleet trials.
- **Operator-facing HMI:** the VeeCAN 800's touchscreen and larger I/O count make it the better fit where a driver or operator needs to interact with the display directly, not just glance at it.
